The Mellerud municipality have more than 9 400 citizens and is situated on the west side of Swedens biggest lake, Vänern. The Mellerud municipality have existed since 1908, but the name "Mellerud" have been written in documents since 1541.
Mellerud have a long tradition of agriculture and forest industry.
